I am obviously older than the average cross fitter. I’ve done some reading on the benefits of high intensity workouts and strength training, which most research shows to be even more beneficial for athletes as they age. Putting weight on bones and joints (with an emphasis on correct form) helps ensure bones stay strong in my opinion. The high intensity cardio & strength workouts allow me to maintain the fitness I need for the hiking, backpacking, and alpine climbing that I enjoy. You cannot eliminate the effects of aging, but hard work allows me to maintain a healthy and vigorous lifestyle.
Lastly, I’d like to say that CF gets a bad rap from many on a supposed tendency to injure people who do it. The potential for injury is present in all athletic activities, but I beleieve the CF focus (in a good gym) on proper form makes the potential for injury no greater than any other athletic activity.”
