Why I Workout at CrossFit Manassas – Amanda

“Growing up, I have always tried to feel comfortable in my own skin. I have never been happy with my image or myself throughout a majority of my life. I would be embarrassed to go to the doctor because I didn’t want to see the number that would pop up on the scale. I have been a competitive athlete since I started playing sports when I was five years old, but there was still a part of me that knew I could be better, but I could never make the life style changes to feel better about myself. The challenges continued throughout high school and into college.
While in college out in Arizona, I made friends that enjoyed outdoor activities so I became very active with hiking and other outdoor activities. I started to be active in the gym and was starting to finally feel comfortable in my own skin. Then I graduated college and moved back home to Virginia. I no longer had my friends to go hiking with, so I joined a local gym to try and fill that void I had been missing from Arizona. Going to the gym everyday was starting to get really boring, really quick. I felt like I was doing the same workout and routine each time I was in there and not noticing any results from the hard work I thought I was putting in.
I had seen some of my friends posting on Facebook about this thing called CrossFit and I wanted to try it out, but I didn’t have the courage to do it. One day my brother calls me and tells me that he just tried an intro class at CrossFit Manassas and that I should join with him. I told my brother I had wanted to try it out for a long time so I called the gym right away and signed up for the intro class.
When I was walking up to the door of CrossFit Manassas for the first time, I was very nervous; I had no idea what to expect. I had a million thoughts running through my head. Little did I know that moment would change my life for the better. I have made life-long memories and friends who help hold me accountable in the gym during workouts. The coaches have inspired me to push harder and figure out what I am truly capable of when it comes to my strengths and give me advice and encouragement on my weaknesses.
Since joining CrossFit Manassas, I have truly felt better with who I am, inside and outside. I have developed muscles that I didn’t even know were there. I don’t have to worry about creating a workout plan and going through the same boring routine because the coaches have already done the research and create workout plans to help maximize and build strength; not only muscle strength, but endurance and mental strength as well.
I competed in my first CrossFit Competition recently, which is not something I would ever imagine myself doing back in the day. Looking back on this last year since being a part of the community at CrossFit Manassas, I know I made the right choice for me. I have always loved the atmosphere and environment that sports bring and I have found that same love at CrossFit Manassas.
A part of me feels like I am home when I am at the gym.”
