When I first met with Laura about what her goals in CrossFit are, she said “Um… I don’t know…. To be thebomb.com?”

Now, that may sound funny, but I think it accurately sums up Laura’s approach to training. Since she signed up for the SuperFit Lorton (a local team competition in the sport of fitness), she has been putting in the work. She normally works out at the 9AM class and is in the gym no later than 8:30 (usually earlier if there are sled drags to do) to do her extra skill work and programmed competition team training. Laura is not unaccustomed to being by herself in the gym, doing what needs to be done. She’s usually packing up and leaving by around 11:00, after she has done her accessory work, recorded how her workout went and any notes she has on it, and chatted for a little bit with the people coming in for the next class.

When I asked Laura how she originally got into CrossFit, she said she remembers Googling different places in her area, and that CrossFit Manassas was the one that she and her boyfriend Jake ended up actually walking into. “I was tired of programming for myself. I wanted someone else to do all of that, and I could just come in and do the work.” I’d say that Laura has certainly got that here at CrossFit Manassas. When she started and she was just doing the regular group classes, those workouts were already written out for her. When she decided she was ready to step it up and start putting in time on more specific goals, that was written out for her too. And every day that she shows up, whether she is tired from keeping up with her ferociously playful young son Roman or if she just got off of work or if yesterday’s workout was particularly awful, she gives it everything she has.

Laura is just over a year out from knee surgery that had her on crutches for months. She is already back to her bodyweight ninja ways, doing one legged squats and weighted dips like it's not big deal.

Laura, your consistency and dedication to your goals are some of my favorite things about you; you put your money and your time where your mouth is. But my absolute favorite thing about you… is that you are willing to stop whatever you’re doing and dance when a song comes on that you love. Keep it up, girl.
